Platform Release Notes
Jungle Disk has been tested extensively on Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Mac OSX 10.4 and 10.5, Suse Linux (KDE), and Ubuntu (GNOME). Basic testing has also been done on other versions as well.
Testing has uncovered the following known issues due to different implementations of WebDAV on various platforms:
All Platforms
- When adding compatibility buckets created by other tools, such as S3Fox, you may need to use the Consistency Check feature on the HELP menu before files will be visible in Jungle Disk. This is due to the different directory indicators used by different S3 utilities. You may also need to delete the Directory Cache after making changes with other tools for those changes to appear in Jungle Disk.
- RSYNC: The default behavior of rsync is to copy files then rename them. Because of the overhead of renaming files, we recommend using the "--inplace" and "--size-only" flags when using rsync on Mac. See the Linux INSTALL file for more detailed instructions on that platform. On Windows, consider using Robocopy or Xcopy instead.
Windows
- On Windows Vista when opening MS Office documents, the files may occationally open as "read-only" due to Windows Explorer trying to open the file at the same time as Office. Closing and re-opening the document should fix the issue. You can also avoid it by hiding the "Details" pane in Windows Explorer.
- The Jungle Disk Service cannot backup EFS encrypted files due to Windows Security. If you want to back up EFS encrypted files, please use the USB version of Jungle Disk, which runs under your local user account.
- With versions 2.50 and higher, having the native file system driver enabled will potentially allow applications to scan or index Jungle Disk as a drive and could result in increased activity to your Jungle Disk.
Linux
- See the INSTALL file included with the distribution for installation and configuration details
- The built-in Automatic Backup feature currently only backs up normal files, however you can back up links, devices, and FIFOs using rsync directly with the mapped path.
- Konqueror does not handle UTF-8 encoded filenames correctly. If you have file names with unicode characters in them you may get an error when trying to open them from Konqueror. Either rename the files to only include ASCII characters, or use an alternate access method such as FUSE filesystem integration.
- Jungle Disk attempts to locate your web browser automatically when clicking links in the software. If it does not find your preferred web browser, simply create a symlink to your browser named ~/.jungledisk/browser
Mac
- If you have parental controls enabled on your Mac user account, you will need to add "https://s3.amazonaws.com" to the allowed sites list for your account or you may receive a "connection refused" error
- Finder encodes UTF8 filenames slightly differently than other platforms. If you use your Jungle Disk between OSX and other platforms at the same time, some filenames may display differently on the other platforms. This should not affect your ability to copy or use the files however.
- Executables cannot currently be launched from a mapped Jungle Disk. Copy the application locally before running it.
- OSX does not encode + characters correctly in URLs. File names uploaded with a "+" character in them will show up with a space instead
- DS_Store files can be disabled by following the instructions here
- Due to an issue in the version of OpenSSL shiped with OSX 10.4.0->10.4.2, files uploaded from Jungle Disk running on those versions cannot be decrypted on a later version or on other platforms. A special fix is available for any users affected by this issue, please contact support for more information.
