Platform Release Notes
Jungle Disk has been tested extensively on Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Mac OSX 10.4 and 10.5, Suse Linux (KDE), and Ubuntu (GNOME). Basic testing has also been done on other versions as well.
Testing has uncovered the following known issues due to different implementations of WebDAV on various platforms:
All Platforms
- When adding compatibility buckets created by other tools, such as S3Fox, you may need to use the Consistency Check feature on the HELP menu before files will be visible in Jungle Disk. This is due to the different directory indicators used by different S3 utilities. You may also need to delete the Directory Cache after making changes with other tools for those changes to appear in Jungle Disk.
- RSYNC: The default behavior of rsync is to copy files then rename them. Because of the overhead of renaming files, we recommend using the "--inplace" and "--size-only" flags when using rsync on Mac. See the Linux INSTALL file for more detailed instructions on that platform. On Windows, consider using Robocopy or Xcopy instead.
Windows XP
- If you have configured Internet Explorer to use a Proxy server, you must add "localxp.jungledisk.com" to the Exception list (under Advanced) then reboot for Windows to connect correctly to Jungle Disk
- Persisting modification times for Windows XP mapped drives requires installing this hotfix from Microsoft.
- If you get a Drive Mapping Error that says "The network path was not found" make sure you have the latest Windows XP SP2 security updates installed. Also, make sure a local firewall is not blocking access.
- If you get a Drive Mapping Error that says "The workstation driver is not installed" when mapping a drive you need to reboot your machine to complete the installation.
- "A device attached to the system is not functioning" when mapping a drive may be caused by certain firewall or anti-virus products (this is known to occur with Kaspersky's Anti-Virus HTTP filtering feature)
- "The network is not present or not started" when mapping a drive may be caused by running under the "guest" windows account.
- OneNote 2007 does not appear to be compatible with the Jungle Disk DAV server. You can copy and back up OneNote files but may not be able to open them directly from the mapped drive
- Excel 2007 may cause a "delayed write failure" popup message on exit when editing files directly on the mapped drive. You can safely ignore this message as no data is lost.
Windows Vista
- If you have configured Internet Explorer to use a Proxy server, you must add "local.jungledisk.com" to the Exception list (under Advanced) then reboot for Windows to connect correctly to Jungle Disk
- Windows Vista handles some directory names with URL-encoded characters (such as %2E) in them incorrectly. You may not be able to browse into these directories via the mapped drive
- If you get a Drive Mapping Error that says "The workstation driver is not installed" when mapping a drive you need to reboot your machine to complete the installation.
- When copying large directories from the Jungle Disk mapped drive, you may receive a "Parameter Incorrect" error from Windows. The "retry" button should allow the copy to conitnue.
- To use the backup in-use files feature Jungle Disk Monitor must be run as an administrator. You can modify the Jungle Disk Monitor shortcut on the start menu to always run as administrator by right-clicking it and selecting Properties.
- Windows Explorer may lock up when the ESET/NOD32 virus scanner is configured to scan network drives. See this forum thread for a fix.
Windows Server 2003/2008
- Windows Server 2003 machines running IIS6 on port 80 will not be able to use native drive mapping in the standard configuration. See this forum post for a workaround.
- Mapping Jungle Disk to a drive requires the WebClient service be enabled and running. The WebClient service is disabled by default on Windows Server 2003 and must be enabled
- If you get a Drive Mapping Error that says "The workstation driver is not installed" when mapping a drive you need to reboot your machine to complete the installation.
- If you have configured Internet Explorer to use a Proxy server, you must add "localxp.jungledisk.com" to the Exception list (under Advanced) then reboot for Windows to connect correctly to Jungle Disk
- In order to use drive mapping on Windows Server 2008, you need to install the "Desktop Experience" feature
Linux
- See the INSTALL file included with the distribution for installation and configuration details
- The built-in Automatic Backup feature currently only backs up normal files, however you can back up links, devices, and FIFOs using rsync directly with the mapped path.
- Konqueror does not handle UTF-8 encoded filenames correctly. If you have file names with unicode characters in them you may get an error when trying to open them from Konqueror. Either rename the files to only include ASCII characters, or use an alternate access method such as FUSE filesystem integration.
- Jungle Disk attempts to locate your web browser automatically when clicking links in the software. If it does not find your preferred web browser, simply create a symlink to your browser named ~/.jungledisk/browser
Mac
- If you have parental controls enabled on your Mac user account, you will need to add "https://s3.amazonaws.com" to the allowed sites list for your account or you may receive a "connection refused" error
- Finder encodes UTF8 filenames slightly differently than other platforms. If you use your Jungle Disk between OSX and other platforms at the same time, some filenames may display differently on the other platforms. This should not affect your ability to copy or use the files however.
- Executables cannot currently be launched from a mapped Jungle Disk. Copy the application locally before running it.
- OSX does not encode + characters correctly in URLs. File names uploaded with a "+" character in them will show up with a space instead
- DS_Store files can be disabled by following the instructions here
- Due to an issue in the version of OpenSSL shiped with OSX 10.4.0->10.4.2, files uploaded from Jungle Disk running on those versions cannot be decrypted on a later version or on other platforms. A special fix is available for any users affected by this issue, please contact support for more information.
