Today, we are announcing the release of version 3.19 of Jungle Disk for Windows. This new version will be available for every Jungle Disk variation; Workgroup, Server, Desktop and Simply Backup. Additionally, we’ve updated and refreshed our iOS and Android apps to support the newest versions of those operating systems. This release has been the development team’s #1 priority for some time. On behalf of the team, I would like to tell you how proud we are to offer updates to our full suite of Windows applications.
I would like to cover a few key points around today’s announcement and future updates:
Before I dive into the details, I would like to say thank you to our customers and beta testers.
To our customers, thank you for your patience and loyalty while we’ve been at work on this release. We’re extremely grateful that you continue to place your trust in Jungle Disk to protect your most critical business data!
To our beta testers, thank you for offering your time and feedback. Your participation was integral in making this release successful.
The bulk of the changes in 3.19 are under the hood but that doesn’t mean they’re small changes. We’ve updated nearly every single underlying dependency (drivers, code libraries, databases, etc.). Through our extensive testing, we have seen these updates make a significant impact on the speed of backups and restoring files from backup. Specifically, we have seen upwards of a 50% decrease in the duration of Backup Search. This stage of the backup process is responsible for scanning all the files included in a customer’s backup and identifying what changes have been made to the files since the last backup. This is important because Backup Search really is at the heart of our backup engine. Our compression and de-duplication would be useless without Backup Search and the underlying database used to keep track of every single little chunk of every file in a customer’s backup.
Beyond the performance improvements we’ve made to Backup Vault, we’ve also updated the driver software that is responsible for a powerful and critical feature, the Network Drive. Though this driver sits behind the scenes, it is the part of Jungle Disk that is used for “mapping” a drive to a drive letter on your computer. Based on internal and beta customer testing, we have seen rock solid stability and reliability of the Network Drive even under the most strenuous scenarios. Knowing that customers rely on this feature for their day-to-day work, it was the top priority to make certain our software always does its job so customers can focus on their core business.
Whether you already have Jungle Disk installed or will be installing for the first time, you can download the software from our website. Additionally, our support team has crafted step-by-step guides to help guide you through the installation process. You can find the guide here.
Although we’re only releasing new Windows software today, our developers are in the process of finalizing a new version of the macOS software as well. With the release of OS X Sierra, we’re re-tooling the Mac software and look forward to sharing it with our Mac users. Stay tuned for news on upcoming updates.
Beyond Jungle Disk’s desktop software, our development and operations team is hard at work optimizing our back-end systems and services. Just last month, we started to roll out new servers with all SSD storage. This has helped improve throughput and speed of reads/writes.
Today’s release is just the first of many to come. Our development team is hard at work on making significant improvements and updates to our applications, customer experience, web apps, back-end infrastructure and more. We believe 2017 will be a landmark year for Jungle Disk and we’re excited to share it with you.
As always, thank you for being a loyal Jungle Disk customer! If you are not yet a Jungle Disk customer, we would be happy to tell you more about our products and how we can help protect your business critical data.
