Hundreds of orthopaedic surgeons, industry professionals and practice administrators will be gathering in Dallas, TX on May 5th to participate in the Texas Orthopaedic Association (TOA) Annual Conference. The TOA was founded in 1936 as the united voice of orthopaedic surgeons. Its mission is to ensure outstanding musculoskeletal health for Texans. Membership currently tops 1,400 and once a year they bring their expertise together to share information, network and educate each other on various topics.
This year, one standout in the sponsor group is San Antonio-based Jungle Disk! You might think it is a little unusual to find a data security and technology company attending an orthopaedic conference. However, Jungle Disk specializes in securing client information and providing protection from cyberattacks - a key topic that all doctor’s offices and healthcare providers should be thinking about. It isn’t uncommon to find the TOA conference event floor filled with sponsors that are in healthcare but given the recent spike in cyber threats on medical practices, Jungle Disk approached the TOA about engaging in this year’s event to bring security awareness to members and attendees. Our three-part approach at the conference will be to bring data security awareness, education and help provide guidance around a solution for these challenges.
While there are several ways to accomplish the education portion, we prefer to stick to the basics. For starters, if you are in healthcare you are very aware of HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. HIPAA requires a data backup plan, “establish and implement procedures to create and maintain retrievable exact copies of electronic protected health information.” [Administrative Safeguards - CFR § 164.308 Section 7(ii)(A)] The Jungle Disk encrypted and off-site backup helps keep your business and customer/patient data safe from accidents and attacks. Using military grade encryption and best practice security key management, healthcare providers or doctor’s offices are able to create a Backup Vault and keep files forever in a compressed, encrypted format.
With HIPAA, you also must “ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all electronic protected health information the covered entity or business associate creates, receives, maintains, or transmits and protect against any reasonably anticipated threats or hazards to the security or integrity of such information.” Jungle Disk offers real time prevention of attacks by securing the office with a firewall gateway that connects into our security cloud allowing us provide all the power of an enterprise defense in depth solution without any of the cost or complexity.
For those practitioners and doctors that are unsure of their office’s network integrity, Jungle Disk offers a no cost network scan to assess the network security for seven types of threats in 30 seconds, the same speed at which criminal hackers attack and destroy today. To back that up, we provide a $10,000+ guarantee you’ll pass all seven tests when your office is protected by our service.
Lastly, Jungle Disk provides at Business Associate Agreement. Per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “the HIPAA Rules generally require that covered entities and business associates enter into contracts with their business associates to ensure that the business associates will appropriately safeguard protected health information.” You can rely on Jungle Disk as a trusted partner that is in this with you to keep your practice safe and secure.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about how Jungle Disk can help to strengthen your practice, please stop by our booth on May 5th and 6th at the TOA conference or reach out to one of our experts here.
