The cache directory for the Jungle Disk software is important as this is the location where your backup database for your Backup Vault resides as well as data for your Network Drive for a more speedy browsing experience. Sometimes, however, the default location of this cache may not be the best option, especially if you’re low on disk space.
For example, the “C” drive is the default location on a Windows based machine. You usually have two options in the event that this directory is full or on the verge of becoming full. The first option would be to clear up space on the existing drive by deleting any unnecessary files/folders that won’t be needed going forward. Of course, this isn’t always an option as virtually all data on the current drive may be necessary. The alternative is to change the cache directory as outlined in this article. We will usually see a large local cache when a customer has a large backup set. This is due to the fact that the backup database size is directly influenced by both the amount of files as well as the overall size of the data chosen for the backup. Since the size of an online disk not only affects the size of the database but also the performance of it, we recommend best practices when it comes to online disk management to ensure your backup experience is as streamlined as it can possibly be.
For the Network Drive, we can never stress enough the importance of ensuring optimal performance of your online disk and making sure that you back up your Network Drive to help with the performance of your online disk. It is also necessary due to all of the malicious ways your data is at risk with the rise of cyberattacks such as ransomware.
Changing the cache directory to a “D” drive, for example, has helped many of our customers continue to have successful backups when they notice that their current drive is reaching its maximum capacity. This also helps free up existing space on the drive even further as the Jungle Disk software’s cache was no longer on the drive that was nearing its full storage availability. While the cache directory and its contents may not be where your data is ultimately held, its management can directly affect the experience you have while using the Jungle Disk software.
