The Adwind Trojan virus, a Remote Access Trojan (RAT), has been noticed to use antivirus software and spreadsheets programs like Excel in order to infect your computer. The virus is back with new tricks trying to bypass your antivirus software in order to infect your computer with dangerous malware. According to a recent post, “Cisco Talos, along with fellow cybersecurity firm ReversingLabs, recently discovered a new spam campaign that is spreading the Adwind 3.0 remote access tool (RAT), targeting the three major desktop operating systems (Linux, Windows and Mac OSX).” While most malware can steal data from a computer, this version of Adwind has the ability to take snapshots and record video and sound. Along with this, it is believed this malware is now able to try and steal “cryptographic keys required to access cryptocurrency wallets on infected systems.”
The Adwind Trojan Virus has spread to computers through a phishing campaign that comes in the form of crafted emails and more. Adwind is also being offered on different Malware-as-a-service (MaaS) platforms to cyber criminals willing to pay for it. In addition, this new version has added the ability to inject code via CSV files that work on excel. Overall, this malware can be very problematic to your business and/or personal computer.
There are a few things that you can do in order to protect yourself and business from letting Adwind cause trouble or harm. Here are three security best practices and tips to follow:
Actively practice smart and safe habits while you are online and using a computer. Watch for signs to see if a website or resource is not secure or seems suspicious.
Make sure you have the proper cybersecurity precautions and technology in place to keep your business safe from attacks. By having active network protection, online data backups, and a password manager in place, you are better protected against cyberattacks and even human error or accidents.
Stay educated on the topic of cybersecurity. Keeping up-to-speed on what is currently going on in the cybersecurity world will help stay protected.
I hope these tips help and keep you and your business safe from Adwind!
