Jungle Buzz by John Garza Oct 5, 2016 Business Connect 2016 Spurs Community Growth and Business Matchmaking The 7th annual Business Connect 2016, hosted by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC), took place on October 4th giving more than 1,500 businesses an opportunity to increase their brand awareness and network within the growing San Antonio community. The focus of the one day event is to facilitate business matchmaking, hands-on training workshops, relationship building and resources for local small businesses. The day was filled with valuable keynotes and panel discussions covering topics such as “Cyber Safety Starts With You: Protecting Yourself, Your Family and Your Business” and “How to Brand Yourself as an Entrepreneur.” As a proud member of SAHCC, I was happy to represent Jungle Disk at the event along with a few members from the team to better educate the attendees on our product offerings and data security best practices. We were also able to discuss topics such as cloud backup, ransomware, malware and responsible data management. Many times, small businesses don’t have the expertise in-house or guidance needed to make good buying decisions related to IT security. Anytime we have an opportunity to equip people with greater knowledge and understanding of data security, we consider that a win! Being a first time attendee, I have to admit that I was a bit surprised and energized by the turnout. The expo floor was bustling with eager business owners and patrons ready to engage in conversation. Our table alone had several visitors with questions on cybersecurity and ways to keep their business safe. The visitors also came from a variety of backgrounds including retail, legal, healthcare and finance, all of which are responsible for storing and handling sensitive data on customers and clients. Based on my experience at this year’s Summit, I have already marked the calendar for a return visit next year and will be even more ready to offer up data security guidance, counsel and solutions to the attendees. If you are a local small business in San Antonio, I strongly encourage you to attend the 2017 Business Connect Summit and get involved!
