How to Backup Your Jungle Disk Network Drive to the Backup Vault

In one of our previous blog posts, we discussed how to prevent getting a computer virus and also recommended backing up your Network Drive to the Backup Vault to have a true backup of your Network Drive. The good thing about backing up the Network Drive is that only one person will need to set this up, and they can do so as long as they have access to that Network Drive.

Here’s how to backup your Network Drive to the Backup Vault -

The easiest way to set this up is from a Windows machine. First, you’ll change your drive type to Network Share. We have this guide that shows how to change the drive type on your computer. This will only have to be done on that machine, and it won’t affect the configuration on any other computer.

After changing the drive type, the Network Drive will probably look different than it did before. The default mapping is “removable media,” which uses drive letters such J or K. Now, you’ll see the Online Disk name with a path next to it in parenthesis. You’ll still be able to access files the same as before with this drive mapping.

In Jungle Disk, you can then create a new backup job. Alternatively, you can create a new Online Disk and have that be the repository for the Network Drive backups, which may be a better option for data management. Once you have the new backup job created, you’ll need to get the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of the Network Drives and use those paths in the backup. You’ll need your Jungle Disk username and password on hand as well.

Once this is done, you’re all set to go! Your Network Drive is now protected from any viruses such as ransomware that can infect your files and previous versions. If you need to keep the drive mapping as removable media on Windows or if you have a Mac only, contact our support team so that we can help you get the backup setup.
