Show Summary

This past Saturday, February 11, the 20th episode of Cyber Talk Radio hit the air on 1200 WOAI and iHeartRadio streaming. I was joined by Greg White, director of the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at UTSA, to discuss creating a “Culture of Security.”

In the first half of the show, Greg walks us through how the CIAS started at UTSA. The CIAS was created in 2001 to get the university into the cybersecurity game and establish programs. Do you know what UTSA’s nationwide ranking for cybersecurity? UTSA is ranked the #1 university for its cybersecurity program. It is also the first university to offer a cybersecurity program in Texas. Greg also shares that UTSA won a grant to help with developing the documentation for the information sharing standards. The standards for sharing information will help improve the nation’s cybersecurity posture across all sectors. For communities planning for cybersecurity information sharing, go to get more info on guidelines and processes to follow.

In the second half of the show, Greg introduces the Cyber Threat Defender Card Game. UTSA started the game with the idea to find a mechanism to reach out to middle school and high school students to help them learn the basic concepts of cybersecurity. Also, they wanted to help people understand their responsibility in helping fight cyber crimes. As a part of the Cyber Patriot program, UTSA has given out the card game to students to learn more about cybersecurity. To learn more about the game, go here. What is the Cyber Patriot Program? CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. There are three main programs within CyberPatriot: the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, AFA CyberCamps and the Elementary School Cyber Education Initiative. CyberPatriot was conceived by the Air Force Association (AFA) to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future. Programs like CyberPatriot help fill the cyber talent gap in Texas.
