Fire Drill! Why Do You Need to Test Your Disaster Recovery Plan?

Why have a disaster recovery plan if you have never tested it?

Not much, unfortunately. When it comes to recovery plans, most people just go to them when they are really in need of them. This is never a good idea. Just like you would have a fire drill at your office or building, you should try and test out your recovery plan.

Testing Your Disaster Recovery Plan

Testing your disaster recovery plan a few times a year is a great way to ensure that it works properly and, if the worst case scenario happens, you are prepared. You would not want to lose all of your data and figure out that you had not been backing up that one file that you desperately needed.

Test Your Local Restores

Test your local restores and ensure that the data is up-to-date. Also, make sure that you are able to restore your files onto different locations. Test Your Off-site Backup

Test your off-site backup solution regularly, and ensure it gets backed up on a schedule. Most backup solutions (like Jungle Disk) will give you detailed backup reports on a scheduled basis. You can set your backups to report to you daily, weekly or immediately from your administrative portal. For Jungle Disk, you can find your backup report at
