Students + Startups in the Jungle: Sidney's Final Reflections
These past few months have just flown by! I can’t believe my summer at Jungle Disk is coming to an end. Not only did I learn many valuable career-building skills, but also personal developmental ones. I genuinely enjoyed coming into work every day and interacting with other coworkers, interns and awesome sauce boss Christina. I learned about the many aspects that marketing entails. From keyword research to that leads to SEO optimization, to generating curated blog posts and social media content to improving metadata descriptions. There’s very much a layered aspect to all that marketing and communications encompass. It was incredible to also work in a tech-centric and entrepreneurial locale. I loved the immersive and community aspect that I was able to take part in. I took a seminar on marketing storytelling at Geekdom, visited different startup companies and lastly led a team of high school interns. This was a great opportunity where I learned how to be a better leader, how to create and manage a structured project and collaborate professionally with my fellow interns.
So what’s next for Sid? Sid really doesn't know!
Just kidding, I will be returning to Texas Tech University in the fall and graduate in the spring of 2020. After that, I am very interested in applying for Venture for America, graduate school, jobs — all of it! But, who knows what I will be doing next summer! Wherever my future endeavors take me, Jungle Disk will always have a special place in my heart because helped shape me be the professional I am today.
