Philanthropitch, Shark Tank for Nonprofits
Next Tuesday, the 27th, we’re going on a team outing to Philanthropitch at the Tobin Center in San Antonio. The event is put on by Notley Ventures and it’s supposed to be like a “Shark Tank” for nonprofits. It’s the first time for the event here in San Antonio (it was started in Austin, with additional events scheduled for Atlanta and Columbus) where the six finalists have three minutes to make their pitch on “why them.” As I wrote last October, at Jungle Disk, we’re committed to helping make our community a better place to live and we’re excited about this new take on awarding support for local nonprofits.
As someone who has spent a fair amount of timing listening to nonprofits talk about the positive (the pitch) work they do, this is a new and exciting format for this type of activity. And the best part, at the end of it, we get to award money to the one we think will best impact our community. Another thing that is really exciting about this effort is the diversity of the organizations represented. Youth Code Jam, Hemisfair Conservancy, Vetted, Reasoning Mind and Restore Education were the finalists and they all work on various causes that I encourage you to read about. And ideally support!
If you’d like to attend you can buy tickets directly from the Tobin Center. We hope to see you there!
